ABOUT GET NEW YORK BUILDING

Get New York Building is an organization of construction professionals working with lawmakers and partners throughout New York State to make changes to the outdated and dangerous Scaffold Law – which assumes absolute liability for contractors and owners regardless of the facts or circumstances surrounding an accident on a construction job site.  Our aim is to reform this law and improve construction safety, and reduce construction costs by creating more competition in the construction insurance market and most importantly bring jobs back to New York State.

New York is the only State with this type of law still on the books.  As a result – construction insurance costs are more than double any other state in the Nation and we have lost tens of thousands of construction jobs as a result.

Because of our onerous scaffold law, the market for liability insurance has shrunk drastically, resulting not only in substantially increasing insurance costs, but also in continually decreasing availability for coverage. We are coming to a crisis point – where major government agencies will not be able to get insurance at all to build projects.

Reforming the Scaffold Law would reduce New York State’s cost of doing business.  It would improve our economic competitiveness and increase our existing revenue streams for infrastructure and public sector construction projects.  This would result in more jobs in both the private and public sector.

The construction industry is suffering from the severe economic impact the Scaffold Law has had on their businesses.
